Celebrating Black Entrepreneurs!
This week we celebrated Small Business Day, a day we take a moment to appreciate the heart and hustle of the entrepreneurs who form the core of our communities.
Despite the pandemic’s curveballs, the resilience of the Black community continues to shine, reflected in the steady growth of Black-owned businesses from year to year. The latest data from the United States Census 2021 Annual Business Survey tells us there were an estimated 140,918 Black or African American-owned businesses in 2020, a bump up from about 134,567, according to the Brookings Institute.
A Taste of Black Gwinnett 2023
“A Taste of Black Gwinnett” is happening Friday, August 18, 2023, 4-8 p.m. showcasing the diverse food from the Black diaspora in Gwinnett County. The event is held at the Norcross Cultural Arts and Community Center in Norcross, GA. African, African-American, Caribbean, and Latin cuisines will be highlighted.

Gwinnett County is home to a diverse population with a thriving business community. However, one major issue facing Black businesses in the county is the challenge of having a diverse customer base. Black-owned businesses struggle to attract customers from outside the Black community, which limits their growth potential and hinders their ability to thrive.
